Forbes Agency Council Members Offer Advice to Aspiring Agency Executives

Be relentless in your pursuit of subject matter expertise. Constantly educate yourself about the latest trends in your industry and position yourself as a go-to expert. Treat continuing education as part of your every day and put your expertise to use by helping your clients succeed. – Kristopher Jones, LSEO

Make it your goal that all your employees love their job. Our agencies are only as good as our people. If they love working for you, they will perform at their highest level. – John Gumas, Gumas

One of the most important decisions you can make is which people you want to spend your time with. They have a prolific impact on your life because we become similar to the people we’re around. Surround yourself with people who will help you meet your goals, challenge and support you. Find a mentor or colleague with whom you can grow to trust and build a solid working relationship that is mutually beneficial and strengthens you as a team player. I always want to be around people that are smarter, more talented than me, at least in some way. It’s the best way for you to grow your business, as well as yourself. – Jenna Gross, Moving Targets

Look at the marketplace that you’re trying to launch in and find a way to distinguish your aspiring agency from the established competition. – Alex Frias, Track Marketing

Learn every part of the business. Know what everyone does and why they do it. When you know that, you’ll know how what you do fits. A full knowledge of the business makes what you bring smarter. – Randy Hughes
